Insectivores, Tree Shrews, Elephant Shrews and Dermoptera Skull Reproductions

INSECTIVORES

Haitian or Hispaniolan Solenodon (Solenodon paradoxus). The Hispaniolan Solenodon is practically extinct, with sightings of specimens or their markings occurring rather infrequently. Solenodons are interesting to researchers due to their retention of primitive mammalian characteristics.

Length of skull: 3.5 inches.
Price: $59.00

Short-tailed Shrew (Blarina brevicauda). Fierce little animals which need to eat almost constantly in order to fuel their high metabolism.

Length of skull: 1.0 inches.
Price: $39.00

Eurasian Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus). The European hedgehog is found throughout the Palaearctic region, except in the Himalayas and North Africa. It is not commonly found above 60°N in latitude, except for Finland, Sweden and the Northwestern-most parts of Russia.

Length of skull: 2.1 inches.
Price: $39.00

TREE SHREWS

Common Tree Shrew(Tupia glis). Native to the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and the Philippine Islands.

Length of skull: 2.1 inches.
Price: $59.00

ELEPHANT SHREWS

Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew (Rhynchocyon chrysopygius). This is the largest of all the elephant shrews. It is the size of a small rabbit, and is found only in the coastal Arabuko Sokoke National Park north of Mombassa in Kenya.

Length of skull: 2.7 inches.
Price: $59.00

DERMOPTERA

Flying Lemur or Colugo (Cynocephalus volans). Colugos are shy, nocturnal, and restricted to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. In consequence, remarkably little is known about their habits. They are certainly herbivores, and are thought to eat mostly leaves, shoots, flowers and sap, and probably fruit as well. They have well-developed stomachs capable of extracting nutriment from leaves.

Length of skull: 3.0 inches.
Price: $59.00
